“Boost My Alaska Education” Drawing
The “Boost My Alaska Education” scholarship is a drawing. It is open to graduating high school seniors who are members, children of members, or grandchildren of members of Tongass Federal Credit Union at the time of application, and who will be enrolled in an eligible Alaska program as described below in summer or fall of the current year.
All entrants will have an equal chance of having their names drawn. The credit union’s Scholarship Committee will draw three winning names and two alternate names. Alternates receive cash awards only if a winning entrant fails to be enrolled in a qualified program in a timely manner.
Cash prizes are worth $500 and will be paid directly to aschool, training program, vocational program, college, community college, or apprenticeship program in Alaska for expenses related to the student being enrolled in a part-time or full-time program for summer or fall of the current year. If the winner does not have funds committed and confirmed by September 30, the award will move to the next alternate who is enrolled and able to commit funds in a timely manner.

“Jump Start Your Life” Recognition Award
The “Jump Start Your Life” Recognition Award is a unique opportunity for a graduating senior to receive a $500 cash prize to use for any future plans they may have. You don’t have to plan on attending college to qualify for this award. Our scholarship committee recognizes that some students have other plans and they have had to overcome significant obstacles to achieve graduation. We want to reward eligible seniors for completing their course of work.
To qualify for this award, a nomination must be made by any parent, grandparent, legal guardian, teacher, school staff member, or other adult. The adult nominating a graduating senior will identify the student as deserving of recognition for meeting or overcoming challenges and showing future potential.
The credit union will notify seniors of the nomination and invite their response by participation as follows: Response by video, audio, writing or personal or telephone interview to include:
- What challenges (any kind) have you had to deal with in life?
- What personal goals do you have for the near future?
- How would you use $500.00 to “jump start” your life after high school?
The one time $500 cash award will be deposited in a savings account at Tongass Federal Credit Union, for a graduating senior in our credit union field of membership. Winners agree to open an account at TFCU by meeting identification and information requirements, if they do not have an account at the time of application.
