What is a
Credit Union?
A credit union is a non-profit financial cooperative owned and operated by its members. Credit Unions are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors who are member-owners. As a cooperative each member-owner has a voice and a vote. Credit Unions return their profits to members in the form of lower fees, lower interest rate loans, and higher yields on deposits.
Credit Unions operate according to the same 7 Core Principles:

Voluntary Membership
We are a voluntary, not-for-profit financial cooperatives, offering affordable financial solutions to those eligible and willing to accept the responsibilities and benefits of membership, without discrimination.

We operate on a democratic platform, meaning one vote, one member, no matter your financial status.

Members’ Economic Participation
TFCU is owned by our members. As such, they contribute to the capital of the TFCU and directly impact our financial success. Members realize benefits in proportion to their relationship with TFCU by use of our decreased loan rates and fees and increased deposit rates.

Autonomy & Independence
TFCU is a self-reliant organization controlled by our member-owners, not outside stockholders.

Education, Training & Information
TFCU is a teaching credit union! We are committed to financially empowering our member-owners, in part, through financial education.

Cooperation Among Cooperatives
We are stronger together! TFCU believes that participation in local, state, regional, national, and international cooperatives strengthens the cooperative movement.

We are passionate about serving our members and about making an impact in our community!
