Scam texts are getting sneakier. One second you’re checking a message about a package or payment—next thing you know, your info is compromised.
Here’s how to spot a scam text before you click.
Red Flags to Watch For
- Urgent tone – “Your account will be locked,” “Act now”
- Suspicious links – Tiny URLs or odd domains (like tfc-support-verify.net)
- Wrong sender info – It might say “FedEx,” but the number or email is off
- Typos or strange wording – Scam texts often sound just a little “off”
Common Scams Right Now
- “Your package was undeliverable—click to reschedule”
- “Unusual activity on your debit card”
- “Confirm your info for a refund”
What to Do Instead
- Don’t click the link—especially if you didn’t expect it.
- Go directly to the source. Log into your financial app or the company’s official website.
- Report and delete the message. Most phones let you press and hold to flag spam.
Tongass Federal Credit Union will never send a link for you to click. If you’re ever unsure, log in directly or give us a call.
